Strengthening Media and Business Ties Between Türkiye and Kosovo

Adil Koçalan, Chairman of Istanbul Media Group and Vice President of the Turkish Internet Media Association (TİMBİR), hosted a meaningful and strategic visit from Kosovo. Dr. Alper YILDIRIM, President of MÜSİAD Kosovo and a young businessman who is an alumnus of Istanbul Technical University, paid a visit to Istanbul Media Group, where important evaluations were made regarding media, technology, and the business world with a focus on the Balkans and Turkey.

During the visit, key topics such as the media structure in the Balkans, the regional impact of digital broadcasting, the media power of the Turkish diaspora, and potential joint media projects that could be developed along the Turkey–Kosovo axis were discussed in depth. In addition, fiber-optic technical infrastructure projects being carried out in Kosovo and their contribution to the digital future of the Balkans were also addressed.

In the course of the discussions, it was emphasized that Kosovo—and the Balkan region as a whole—cannot be strong without Turkey, just as Turkey would face serious challenges in opening up to Europe without the Balkans. Both parties agreed that Turkey’s strategic route to Europe passes through the Balkans. In this context, it was highlighted that strong cooperation in media, technology, and economic fields is of great importance not only for the two countries but also for regional stability.

Despite his young age, Dr. Alper YILDIRIM has made significant contributions to Kosovo’s digital transformation. He stated that they have successfully implemented fiber infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening the country’s communication capacity. Dr. YILDIRIM emphasized that a strong media and communication infrastructure plays a critical role in improving the investment climate, supporting economic development, and increasing international visibility.

The meeting also addressed the strategic importance of MÜSİAD—one of the largest and most influential business organizations of the Republic of Türkiye—in Kosovo and across the Balkans. Discussions focused on how the Balkans could benefit more effectively from a strong and visionary business association like MÜSİAD, and how this process could create added value for both Balkan countries and Türkiye. In this regard, it was underlined that MÜSİAD carries significant responsibilities and historic missions specifically in the Balkans.

Adil Koçalan, Chairman of Istanbul Media Group, drew attention to the historical, cultural, and strategic importance of the Balkans, stating that media is not merely a platform for delivering news but also a powerful diplomatic tool that builds bridges between countries and strengthens friendship and cooperation. Koçalan noted that they will continue their efforts with determination to ensure that Turkish internet media becomes more effective, more visible, and more institutionalized across the Balkan region.

At the end of the visit, TİMBİR Vice President Adil Koçalan presented the TİMBİR pin to Dr. Alper YILDIRIM, President of MÜSİAD Kosovo. This meaningful gesture was regarded as a symbol of the strong bond and shared vision established between the media and business communities.

The meeting, held in a sincere and productive atmosphere, served as a strong indication that Turkey–Kosovo relations will continue to grow stronger in the fields of media, technology, and economy. Istanbul Media Group extended its thanks to Dr. Alper YILDIRIM for his kind visit and valuable contributions.
